I prefer HHGTTG to dune and 2001, but it's really more satire than science fiction, especially the first book. 2001 is good but I like the short stories he wrote that inspired the movie more.

I read this same list... in my mind Dune should be number one. I understand people that do not enjoy Franks writing style, but I concur that without it the book wouldn't be what it is. It connects you so deeply with Paul, with so much detail that in Messiah when he walks out into the desert, I literally cried. It was the saddest thing I've ever read. Yet I understood, it was the way of the Fremen people. In my mind I actually started wishing the world was real! Without the detail the book wouldn't be what it is. As for the rest of the books, I love them as well. Although Duncan Idaho isn't my favorite character and it does get a little out of hand when he keeps returning to the novels. I was like "DIE ALREADY!" LOL. The man re-created the Science Fiction genre. For that he should be commended. Also how 2001 isn't in the top 5 and Hitchhikers is, that's pretty baffling.
