Spiderman And His Amazing Friends

I was up late last night playing civilization and so while I was trying to avoid being destroyed I flipped on the TV and “Spiderman and his Amazing Friends” was on.  I watched this show as kid.

Now I get that television from the late 70’s and early 80’s was cheesy and that this was a kids show but this show is hard to describe as anything else. I’m actually a little embarrased I watched it back then and I think I was 8 or 9.

It’s not that this isn’t a fun show, I actually enjoyed it and there was certainly some amount of understanding that what they were saying was absurd, one of the characters even commented on one of his own lines during the show. I wish that I could repeat some of the one liners but I blocked them out of my mind to avoid permanent psychological damage.

The villian was Shocker. Shocker is a b level villian in the comic books. Interesting but really not all that much of a threat. Now though Spiderman has firestar and Iceman with him. In order to make him threatening he can now vibrate the air around him to make a shield that stops fire and Ice. But at the same time we had Spiderman considering quiting because Aunt May dosn’t like Spiderman.

Time and age had certainly distorted by view of this TV show and I’m afraid to go back and watch some of the other things that I liked back then. (Also is it just me or does firestar look exactly like Mary Jane?)
