My guesses on how they are going to keep Sylar on the show is that either Peter has the ability to steal powers like his father and hasn't used that yet, or that he will be mean in front of Baby Matt Parkman and he will turn off his powers.

I really find myself wavering on this episode. Mostly, I feel it was strong. I'm kind of a sucker for getting into the 'history' of things as they were doing. But of course, we must follow progress! You've brought up some good questions. I almost hope that the reason Sylar wasn't killed ISN'T the so obvious answer - and they will have some smarty-pants reason that's beyond anything we could guess. But...it's probably all of his changing. Which makes him unkillable, which is neat for about a moment. I want him to stay on the show, but he needs even more changing for that to happen.
