I almost missed the Premier of Smallville because I wasn’t expecting it. Much of this is because I simply wasn’t all that excited by the finally last year. It simply felt as if it were taking a large step backwards, and as this story begin it felt a little bit the same.
It seems as if every season premier someone is missing. This season it is Lois Lane. She has been gone for several weeks after putting on the Legion ring. I had been hoping to see something more of the legion but that didn’t see to be the point.
Beyond that I just don’t like Clark all that much at the moment. I do not think that we are really supposed to and that doesn’t bother me, so long as we get someone who we can pull for in the show soon. I just don’t have that much interest in a season of him acting cold and pretending he doesn’t care about people. A few episodes perhaps, but no more.
I also really want to see more of the Justice League formation. This was one of the things that really made last season interesting to me because in large part the origin of Clark Kent as superman has long been told.
Overall i didn’t find the first episode of smallville great, but I didn’t hate it and since I’m still watching smallville after as many bad episodes as i have seen one average episode isn’t going to change much.

In the last two days we have been given a lesson on why shows should have a set plan and built in time limit. Two nights ago the Lost season finally was on and it was great. The plot jumped forward, the characters acted differently and it makes me excited for next season.
Last night the Smallville seasons finally Doomsday was on. This is a show that most people thought was going to end this season but stayed on for another season and the finally showed that. Much of the end of the episode felt like a set up for the next seas
on. We need Clark to have a flaw so lets give him one.
That isn’t to say that I didn’t enjoy Smallville last night. There were many great moments and even some of the twists were interesting. It’s just that the end felt as if it were created simply so they would have something to do next season.
Perhaps part of the reason it left me so flat is that I never really cared all that much for the movies and the villian they set up for next season is Zod. This doesn’t mean that it can’t be good I just don’t care all that much about him.
I for one am ready to see this show move on to the next stage. I have said it before but I think it bears repeating that the show needs to stop delaying the appearance of Superman. Change the costume if that is the problem but give the man his glasses and show us how thees people react to a real superhero in their midst.
I am interested though in seeing what Lois will get to see. Will she learn about the red blue blur? And finally will we ever get a visit from a young millionare who lives in Gothem?

In the last couple seasons Chloe has felt a little lost on the show. She’s still Clark’s friend, but the truth is that was only part of the role she filled on the show. She was also the one Clark rescued, the one reporter who he had to hide his secret from and the correction to Lois Lane.
I think that was part of the reason for this episode of Smallville. Chloe herself has seen that she isn’t where she expected to be. She had always planned to be at the planet with Clark and watching him follow her dream with her cousin isn’t easy and so she wishes to be Lois
This of course plays with the idea that some people have had that at some point Chloe will become Lois because Lois has disappeared a
nd it is safer for Chloe, but I don’t think anyone ever really believed that this would happen.
The most interesting part though was the end of the episode where it appears that Chloe finds her place, hopefully for the last time, and I double that sentiment with Clark. Superman isn’t about the struggles that he has with being a hero, that’s fine in a spiderman show, but not Superman.
But back to Chloe, it appears that she has finally found her place doing what she has been doing on the show for years, helping heroes. This has been hinted at for a while as she became closer friends with the Green arrow but seeing her become Watchtower was one of those moments that just can’t help but make a comic book fan smile.

Over the years in Smallville Clark’s powers have slowly emerged. That idea that he slowly got his powers has been one of the themes and it has always been a fun part of the show.
From the trouble he had when first learning to use x ray vision to the scorches in his barn and sneezing the door to that same barn several miles these have usually been major points in the story, but the biggest one has always seemed to be flight.
And perhaps that was the problem. Everyone knows that Superman flies, but then they all knew that he had x ray vision and super hearing too, but the difference

- It’s just not the same
in those was that he didn’t know and so while you didn’t have that shocked moment you might in another show the character did.
Clark already knew he could fly. He’s seen Kara do it, he’s been told he will be the legion, and he’s flown several other times but it has never really been something he has controlled.
From the trailer it appears that he will continue to fly now and that’s a good thing because just as the show grew out of the new villain every week phase as it grew up it’s time that it grows out of the new powers phase. It was fun while it lasted but what’s really left for this show to discover is how Clark can be the face of hope when people can’t see his face. A blur that saves people will be nice for a while, but just as they turned on him last week out of fear eventually the blue red blur is going to become feared as well and when that happens the only way that it can be solved is for people to see the face of the man who is saving them.
