I’m excited to announce that our new collection of sketches, Sketchings #3, is now available! While the first two issues each focused on a single artist’s work, what’s great about this issue is that the emphasis is on collaborations between Matt, Dusty, and I. There are several “creature jams” (including the cover) where different artists took turns drawing different parts of one character and then one artist inked the whole thing. There are three jam comics (improvisational stories), including “Goblins Hate Fairies” and “Sushi Bar” which you’ve already seen on the Random Ink site. And there are many pieces that feature one artist inking the work of another. In addition, we threw some other fun stuff in there, like the time we drew each other as zombies.
You can preview and order a copy right now at our IndyPlanet store or pick one up from us at HurleyCon (March 6) or Planet Comicon (March 27 & 28)!

Over on the Random Ink site you’ll find another one-page jam comic by Matt and I. We both thought it was fun to try a fantasy comic… I’m sure it won’t be the last one.

A new one-page comic has been posted on the Random Ink site! This one is a jam comic by Matt and myself. We spent a lot more time on it than we do no most of our jam comics. It’s always a blast to collaborate like this.
Stay tuned for another one next week!

Just wanted to point out the new JAM COMICS page… where you can find not only some comics we’ve posted previously, but also a five-page jam that has never been shown before. Check it out, and let us know what you think!

Well, after meeting for Joplin Sketch Night every month for almost a year now, we finally decided to make some jam comics together. It’s always fun to riff on each other’s ideas. You can check out the craziness for yourself!

Last night, we had a little Three Trees sketch session at my house. Elton, Dusty, and Matt all came over. We got to show each other what we were working on, which was cool. All three of those guys are cranking out some great stuff you’ll get to see in the coming months! This was the first time all four of us were together, and it was quite awesome.
We decided to make some jam comics, so Elton came up with some story seed words to get us started. We all picked some out of the pile, and then got started on the top third of a page. Then we would pass it to the next guy, draw the middle section, and then pass it again and finish it. I got a lot of grief for taking too long on the first two sections. Dusty was really hardcore… straight to ink, no pencils.
Be warned… these are really loose, quickly-drawn, and crazy!

Free Comic Book Day was a blast today. Elton and I hung out with fellow local artists Amber Stone and Randy Rustin, sold some books, did some sketches, and gave away a bunch of mini-comics. It was great hanging out with fellow artists and checking out each other’s artwork. Hopefully we can make this a yearly tradition here in Joplin!
Maybe the best part of the day was doing some jam comics with Amber and Randy. The way it worked was that we each drew the first row of a one page comic and then passed it on to the next person, who drew the middle part and passed it onto the next person, who drew the end. The results are pretty loose and fun… check ’em out! (Amber and I must have had zombies on the brain, as the two we started feature the undead.)
